The CEO of Egret, Matt is a seasoned business executive with over 35 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Most recently he founded and led Tactiva Therapeutics, Inc., an Immuno-Oncology start up, through their $35M Series A fund raise.
Matt leads Egret in all day-to-day activities and functional areas. He is responsible for the development of the vision and strategic plan for Vicora. He has been a key member of the early commercial and management teams at Genentech (Sold to Roche), Pharmacia (Sold to Upjohn/Pfizer), Neurex (Sold to Elan) and Insmed.
As President of Galileo Consulting, a global biopharmaceutical advisory and consulting practice, he has assisted a wide range of companies in their business development, strategic planning, fundraising and M&A activities.
He is a graduate of Canisius College, and currently sits on the board of NeoDynamics, KSL, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Dog Ears Literacy.
Bill is the Chairman of Egret and a healthcare, medical diagnostics, business development executive leader from Western New York.
He is currently the managing partner of private equity firm Lorraine Capital and the former CEO of the Jacobs Institute, where he currently serves as an advisor to the executive management team.
Bill recently became a senior advisor with Circuit Clinical, is set to become chairman of the newly formed 43North Foundation board and is the executive chairman at Deal Partners, a company that received an investment from Lorraine.
Early in his career he worked for Boehringer Mannheim and Roche, and he was instrumental in the expansion of Immco Diagnostics, Inc. and its acquisition by Trinity Biotech PLC (NASDAQ: TRIB).
Bill is very active in the Buffalo community as chair, director, and advisor on a number of local, national, and international boards including 43 North, the University at Buffalo Foundation Board of Directors, Kaleida Health Board of Directors (Vice Chair), Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, (Trustee), the West Side Rowing Club (Past Chair), and the Burchfield Penny Art Center. He is a graduate of Canisius College.
Rick is a scientific advisor for Egret and the founder of the Vicora, Inc & Ampullae, Inc. technologies. He is a board member of both companies as well.
He formerly served as the Vice President of Engineering at the Jacobs Institute (JI). The JI is a one-of-a-kind medical innovation center located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in Western New York State. At the JI, a collaborative partnership of clinicians, researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs work hand-in-hand to create and develop the next generation of medical devices. His focus was on industry product development and overseeing the first projects for the Institute’s Idea to Reality Center, or i2R, to develop endovascular medical devices.
With over 65 patents that yield over $25MM annually in medical device sales, Rick has lead teams through all aspects of product development ranging from ideation, design for manufacturing, regulatory studies and clinical studies. A veteran of Cook Medical, he’s also lead a Silicon Valley startup where he performed design work for companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and General Motors resulting in a Consumer Electronic Show (CES) Innovations Design and Engineering Award.
Rick holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering from Cornell University.
Brian serves as corporate counsel for Egret and its affiliate entities. He is a partner and member of the leadership team of Lippes Mathias, a Buffalo-based law firm.
He has more than twenty years of experience in deal-making and transactional matters. That includes hundreds of closed transactions including acquisitions, finance, venture capital and private equity transactions. In his work, Brian has helped to cultivate numerous start-up and venture companies and has served as a mentor to principals in practical aspects of these matters including setting strategy and capitalization concerns.
As acquisition counsel, he represents private equity firms, independent sponsors and public and privately held companies in acquisitions throughout the region.
He serves as primary outside counsel to public and privately-held companies on matters spanning from corporate and capital organization to strategic initiatives such as mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures to family and corporate succession.
Brian is a University at Buffalo School of Law graduate and received his bachelor’s degree from Siena College.
Mike is an award-winning senior-level executive with a proven record of achievement in business, board governance and community service. As a partner, he serves as the liaison for Egret overseeing brand development and marketing.
He is currently the Senior Vice President and the Chief Administrative Officer for Kaleida Health, Western New York State’s largest employer ($2 billion & 13,000 employees). His responsibilities include all of the hospital system’s external affairs (marketing, communications and government relations), plus fundraising, business development, planning, construction and real estate.
His awards include being named the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” for his 20+ years of volunteer work and community service. In 2018, Hughes was recognized nationally by the Public Relations Society of America, winning its highest national award – the prestigious “Silver Anvil” – for his integrated communications and marketing campaign around the relocation, rebranding and grand opening of the former Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (now Oishei Children’s Hospital).
A graduate of Harvard Business School Executive Program in Health Care Management, he has his MBA from Medaille College & BA from Canisius College.
Shawn is the CEO of Vicora Inc. and Ampullae Inc., two of Egret's portfolio companies.
He is the co-founder, current board member and advisor for Resolution Medical. Resolution Medical specializes in complex delivery systems, active implantable devices, and component manufacturing. Established in 2012, he served in a variety of roles including CEO, Chief Commercial Officer and President.
